Dr Ingrid Bergson
Psych D, BSc. (Hons); Principal Clinical Psychologist.

Introduction:

Principal Clinical Psychologist, working privately and for the NHS.

Helping people reduce their distress, especially in relation to chronic health problems; using a predominantly CBT approach.

I undertook my undergraduate degree at Leeds University and completed my Doctorate at Surrey University in 2003. I now have more than 7 years post qualification experience working primarily with patients with chronic pain and long term health conditions, in various specialist hospitals and services. These have included the Pain Management Centre at the National hospital for Neurology & Neurosurgery, the general Medicine service at the Whittington Hospital and INPUT pain management centre based at St Thomas’ Hospital. I am currently developing various pain management programmes, alongside meeting individual psychological needs at the Locomotor Service in Hackney Primary Care trust.

Alongside my NHS work, my private clinic predominantly focuses on the management of various health conditions. Using a CBT approach, I specialize in the adjustment and psychological management of long term conditions; aiming to help people manage the associated distress and impact these can have on a person’s life. Also aiming to identify and break any unhelpful cycles that may have developed in relation to the pain and or condition and work toward improving quality of life. I work primarily with the individual but will also work with couples/families where there are relationship issues associated.

Whilst I specialize in health related difficulties, I am also able to accept referrals for distress and difficulties in isolation from any health concerns.

Specialist areas:

  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy
  • Chronic pain management
  • Adjustment to chronic health conditions: e.g. Diabetes, Asthma, Crohns, Colitis, Heart disease
  • Depression, anxiety, panic, phobias
  • Stress management

Professional Registration:

  • British Psychological Society
  • Health professions Council

Also recognized by major health care providers

Vivienne Cobden
UKCP, FPC (WPF) MBACP

Introduction:

Qualified therapist/counsellor, working privately and for the NHS providing short and longer term counselling in a safe non-judgemental environment.

In 1992 I embarked on a four year training course to become a therapist/counsellor.  I chose to train in this field  having had many years of personal therapy which I found invaluable to understanding my own role & responsibilities within relationships, friendships, work colleagues etc.

One of the many benefits from therapy was how it showed me that things didn't have to remain the same.  Becoming aware of myself in situations that
didn't help with my 'well being' or happiness, helped me to see that I had the choice to make changes (however uncomfortable) or to choose not to make changes.

That old metaphor 'one can't see the wood for the trees' is so true.  When we are entrenched within our own personal lives & situations we cannot see the wider picture nor be able to separate ourselves from it in order to recognise what changes may be possible.

Within a safe, non-judgemental, accepting environment, therapy/counselling could be the first step to coming out of the 'wood' in order to see how beautiful the 'trees' might look.

As a service provider, I work both within the NHS & privately. In both cases, I typically meet with individuals on a weekly basis for 50 minutes.

Depending on ones situation & preference, I work both long term & shorter term counselling.

I am a member of the following recognised associations:

1. UKCP  United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy
2. Council for Psychoanalysis & Jungian Analysis College
3. FPC (WPF) Foundation for Psychotherapy & Counselling
4. MBACP Member of British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy

Are you feeling low, depressed, angry, anxious, isolated, worthless or guilty?

As a professional counsellor/therapist I offer a space where we can explore these feelings in a confidential and non-judgemental environment.

If you are concerned about your emotional well-being or possibly feeling low, depressed, isolated, worthless, guilty, anxious or angry, and these feelings are interfering with your day to day life and preventing you from functioning at your best, then it may help to talk to someone outside of family and friends.

As an experienced counsellor, I offer a space where we can explore together your feelings and difficulties in a confidential environment where you will not be judged. As I work psychodynamically, we will also explore past experiences as these may be linked to current difficulties.

Michelle Katz
Relate CC : BACP Senior Accredited Counsellor, Pg Dip

Introduction:

Using an integrative approach which includes CBT, I work long and short term with couples and individuals.

My own experience of counselling had such a profound effect on my self confidence, self esteem and relationships, that I decided to train as a counsellor and continue on this incredible journey of self awareness and growth. The first step into something new is never easy, but if you are reading this then congratulations, you have already taken it !

Counselling is neither self indulgent or weak no matter how 'big' or 'small' the problem, it is 'our' problem and it affects us. It takes courage to face our thoughts, emotions and behaviour. But to avoid them is self deprecating, unfulfilling and a blow to our self esteem. In fact it has been proved that high self esteem derives from facing challenges.

I firmly believe that counselling is a journey that we undertake together ....you know the terrain and I have some maps !

Using CBT and a Psychodynamic approach, I work to help people understand their difficulties, how they arose and, most importantly, how to make changes.

I work with couples & individuals for a variety of difficulties and particularly enjoy working with those who are experiencing low self esteem / confidence. I work both long & short term.

I have written and had published articles on Self Esteem; Couple Relationships and Anxiety, all of which are available by request.

I am a Standard Life (Pru) Healthcare recognised practitioner and can therefore see people referred by a Consultant Psychiatrist.

I worked voluntarily for 7 years and in 2000 started my private practice.

Caroline Neale
Integrative Counsellor

Introduction:

I am a qualified Integrative counsellor experienced in both long and short term counselling, where I aim to work together with my client within a safe and confidential therapeutic environment.

Contacting a Counsellor for the first time isn’t easy. I know. I made this leap of faith myself - many years ago. And it is my journey through Counselling, that is at the heart of my beliefs.

Because Counselling made a powerful difference to my life. I experienced, probably for the first time, an empathic, trusting and non-judgemental environment. I believe such an environment can help work through difficult and traumatic personal problems and experiences. In time, this can help us forge a new and happier way of life.

I am an Integrative Counsellor, having trained in both Person-Centred and Psychodynamic approaches. I bring my knowledge, experience and understanding into the work my with clients.

It is my strong belief that together we can find ways to explore what is happening at present. Often by talking about our thoughts and feelings and exploring how things are for us, we find ways to change what is making us unhappy.

Sometimes it’s helpful to explore experiences through our lives on a deeper level. This can help us find some understanding and attach meaning to how we came to feel this way.

  • Post-Graduate Diploma in Counselling: 2002-2004
